Finally, it converts the total square footage to the appropriate units (tiles, planks, etc.) based on your selected flooring type.

About the Waste Factor

Including a waste factor is essential for any flooring project:

• 5-7%: Recommended for simple rectangular rooms with few obstacles
• 8-10%: Standard for most residential projects
• 12-15%: Recommended for complex layouts, diagonal installations, or patterned designs
• 15-20%: For intricate patterns, herringbone, or very complex room shapes

Tips for Accurate Measurement

• Measure each room at its widest points
• For L-shaped or irregular rooms, divide into rectangles and add them together
• Include closets and other alcoves in your measurements
• Don't subtract for permanent fixtures like kitchen islands unless they extend to the floor
